Some fun ideas to do with older children:

  • Let the kids design their own dinner place mats.  Get the paints, markers and crayons out and let their minds go to work.
  • Grab some very inexpensive sidewalk chalk and let the kids decorate your driveway and sidewalks.
  • Its Easter time, so right now is a great time to dye some eggs with the kids.
  • Load the kids and the bikes up and head to the nearest empty church or school parking lot to let them have space to ride their bikes.

  1. Whats "older" children? My youngest is 15, but we colored with sidewalk chalk a few months ago and went bike riding last weekend. Now I am doing these things with my granddaughters. It never stops!

  2. Something I always did with my kids was to go down and feed the fish and the buffalo. We would stop at Costco and buy several huge bags of carrots and go visit the buffalo. It is amazing at the enormity of these animals. Make sure and take a camera because you can get some great shots of the animals and the curious faces the kids make at them.

I don't know why my kids enjoyed feeding the fish so much because it is really kind of gross. When they throw a handful of food into the water and hundreds of fish are on top of each other trying to get that last little piece of food you threw out there. Gross!

I was always scared because when my kids were little I feared they would fall in and I wouldn't have the courage to jump in after them.

Now, I just want to throw them in!

  3. Now these are tips that I think I can do with O, I'm really going to look into doing at least two of them this weekend with her.

  4. Jennifer - I love the fact you are recommending things that do not involve any electronics such as a telephone, a television, an IPod, an IPad, or a Wii game system. My daughter, who is 13 years old, is really into electronics, but lately she has been spending a lot of time participating in other outdoor activities with her friends such as riding bikes or hanging out on our front porch. The nice weather has been a real blessing and she has taken average of every beautiful minute/moment outside. I wish I could say the same for me!
